Understanding and appreciating the creative process

As a filmmaker, I have spent the past fourteen years exploring and appreciating the creative process. It is essential to me to understand how to expose it to the people I work with and ignite it when needed. When it comes to the creative process, people often have a vague idea of what it means and how it appears in an artist's mind. This can lead to clients feeling skeptical about an artist's ability to deliver. However, the value that an artist brings to their work goes beyond just technical mastery. It includes the investment of time and effort into developing ideas and concepts, discovering new art, and buying or renting equipment.

In my view, creativity is the container in which an artist's experiences, introspections, writings, books, museums, hikes, meetings with new people, and the work of other artists exist. It also involves being receptive to inspiration, which comes from a higher self. To be prepared to receive ideas and inspiration, an artist must be in a state of receiving. This could involve activities such as writing, reading, taking walks, listening to podcasts, and going on hikes.

My personal method of being creative and receptive to inspiration is by asking myself simple questions and spending time alone in nature with a notepad and a clear focus. This helps me cut through mental clutter and come up with new ideas or concepts. However, the work does not end there. Inspiration needs to be integrated into the work.

It is essential to remember that not every artist is for everyone. Art is like relationships, and not everything fits everyone. People are drawn to my work because it resonates with them, and I try to understand the reasons for this. This helps me create something authentic and connect with my clients on a deeper level.

Ultimately, I believe that similar energies attract the same energy. By putting my emotions, experiences, and efforts into my work, I attract people who share the same energy and outlook on life.
